Aboriginal Education
At Burnside Public School, we acknowledge the Burramattagal people, as the Traditional Owners of the land on which our school stands. We also recognise the Dharug and Eora Nations as the Traditional Custodians of this land.
Our commitment to Aboriginal Education
At Burnside Public School, we believe that Aboriginal education is a shared responsibility for all.
Our staff are committed to strengthening their capacity in Aboriginal education by working closely with our local Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG). Through this partnership, we support the implementation of the Aboriginal Education Policy and the Partnership Agreement between the NSW Aboriginal Education Consultative Group and the Department of Education.
Personalised Learning Pathways
We use Personalised Learning Pathways (PLPs) to guide individualised learning for Aboriginal students. Student voice plays a key role in shaping and selecting learning goals. PLPs may include literacy and numeracy targets aligned with Closing the Gap priorities, along with cultural goals.
Cultural Activities
All students take part in cultural immersion experiences to enhance their understanding of and respect for First Nations cultures. First Nations students are also offered opportunities to further develop their cultural knowledge, fostering a strong sense of identity and pride.
